REQUEST THE EU CERTIFICATE

The Certificate of Registration of Citizen of the European Union, also known as the EU Certificate, is the mandatory document for those EU citizens who decide to reside in Spain for a period of more than 3 months.

The certificate issued will contain your name, nationality, address, foreigner identification number (NIE) and the registration date. The document is made of paper and is popularly known as the “green NIE” due to its color.

WHO SHOULD PROCESS THE EU CERTIFICATE?

Any citizen of the EU, EEA or Switzerland who will reside in Spain for a period of more than 3 months.

I AM GOING TO APPLY FOR THE CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION OF CITIZEN OF THE EU. WHAT REQUIREMENTS ARE NECESSARY?

It will depend on the situation in which you find yourself:

• - If you are a worker in Spanish territory, you must prove:
  • That you are working for someone else or self-employed in Spain.
  • That you have sufficient resources for yourself and for the members of your family.
  • That you have a health insurance with full coverage for Spain.
• - If you are a student, you must prove:
  • That you are enrolled in a public or private training center.
  • Have health insurance with full coverage for Spain.
  • Make a responsible declaration that you have sufficient financial resources for yourself and your family members.
• - If you are a family member who will accompany the EU citizen to Spain, you must prove the relationship you have with him/her, whether as a spouse, descendant or ascendant of the EU citizen.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

• - Model EX18.
• - Completely scanned passport, valid and in force.
• - Employment status of the EU citizen.
  • If you are an employee, your status must be accredited with one of the following documents:
    • Employment contract registered with the SEPE
    • Social Security registration document
    • Employer's hiring declaration
  • If you are self-employed, any of the following documents:
    • Registration in the Census of Economic Activities.
    • Proof that your establishment is registered in the Commercial Registry
    • Social Security registration document or consent to check the data in the files of the General Treasury of Social Security or the Tax Agency.
  • Income citizen:
    • Proof of public or private health insurance that covers foreign citizens.
    • Proof of having sufficient financial resources for him and his family members during the period of residence in Spain.
  • or Student:
    
    • Enrollment in a school, recognized or funded by the educational administration.
    • Health insurance, public or private, that covers the period of residence in Spain, such as the European health card.
    • Declaration of responsibility for having sufficient resources for him and his family members.

PROCEDURE TO FOLLOW

• The application must be addressed to the Immigration Office of the province where you intend to reside or to the corresponding Police Station.
• The deadline for carrying out the procedure is 3 months from the date of entry into Spain. Spain.
• You must also pay the fee before the certificate is issued, which is done immediately and which you can always use with your passport.
