What is the Community Family Card?

The Community Family Residence Card is aimed at those family members of EU citizens, or of another State party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or Switzerland, who do not hold the nationality of one of these States, and decide to reside in Spain for a period of more than 90 days.

You can apply for the Community Family Card if you are in one of the following situations:

  • If you are the spouse or registered partner of the EU citizen.
  • If you are a direct descendant under 21 years of age of the EU citizen or a foreigner, older and living in the care of the EU citizen or incapacitated.

What are the requirements to apply for it?

I want to apply for the Community Family Card, What are the steps to follow?

The application process for the Community Family Card can be carried out directly in Spain online. Once the necessary documents have been collected, the process consists of 3 steps:

  1. Submission of the application: with all the necessary documents, the application is made online, within the period of 3 months from the date of entry into Spain.
  2. Taking fingerprints: once the residence permit has been granted, it is necessary to request an appointment at the police station to have your fingerprints taken.

    • or If the person is an employee, their status must be accredited with one of the following documents:
      • Employment contract registered with the SEPE

      • Proof of public or private health insurance that covers the foreign citizen.
